ABUJA-KADUNA TRAIN ATTACK; ONE AMONG MANY

PRESS STATEMENT

On March 28, 2022, suspected bandits/terrorists attacked a train carrying about 970 passengers headed to Kaduna from Abuja. The attack led to the death of several innocent citizens of Nigeria and the abduction of several passengers by the bandits.

In recent times, the Abuja-Kaduna road has been known as one of the most unsafe roads in the country owing to the fact that kidnappers have made the highway a place to ambush people travelling along the expressway.

The attack on the train confirmed the insecurity associated with traveling by road between Abuja and Kaduna and many other routes across Nigeria. Recall that the attack on the train is coming just some days after the same bandit/terrorist attacked the Kaduna International Airport with an unconfirmed number of death.

For us at Building Blocks for Peace Foundation (BBFORPEACE), we publicly condemn this inhumane act on fellow Nigerians by these groups of non-state armed groups as no level of grievance can justify the murderous killing of people and destruction of national infrastructures.

While we express our condolences to the family of the deceased, we call on the Federal Government of Nigeria to urgently address the root causes of violent agitations and attacks across the country and also beef up security across the country to ensure that people can live and move freely in the country without fear.

We call on the Nigerian security forces to step up their search for the kidnapped passengers and also bring the bandits to justice.

Building Blocks for Peace Foundation is a non-governmental organization working on conflict prevention, prevention of violent extremism, peacebuilding, and sustainable development in Nigeria.

Thank you.
